SS United States exhibit to be mounted on board the USS Intrepid

The SS United States Conservancy is pleased to announced that it has received permission to mount an SS United States exhibit on board the USS Intrepid when the vessel completes its maintenance overhaul and returns to its Manhattan pier in late 2008. The Intrepid has been permanently moored at the Big U's former home of Pier 86 in Manhattan as an historic monument and attraction and is now undergoing a $58 million renovation to address deterioration from the effects of weather and salt corrosion. The Intrepid has become a top New York City tourist magnet, drawing 700,000 visitors a year. The SS United States Conservancy has also received assurances that
the SS United States propeller now displayed at the pier entrance will remain protected.
